Who Was Jane Addams?

Imagine waking up in the morning and going to work in a factory with no breakfast and no play time after you are done working for the day. Jane Addams, who lived here in Chicago, thought kids should be in school learning instead of in factories working. She fought hard for the rights of children, women and the poor, and to make sure everyone had a caring place to go in their community.

Learn more about her life and work in The House That Jane Built and Jane Addams: Pioneer Social Worker, which give information about Jane's youth, the beginnings of Hull House and her further work to help people everywhere.

Or take a look at The Many Faces of Hull-House. See a collection of photographs that show what Chicago's Hull House looked like and the faces of the many people who visited there. To see them in person, you can visit the Jane Addams Hull House Museum.
