Request an Interlibrary Loan

Didn't find it at CPL? Request an interlibrary loan to borrow a title from another library system. If you are logged in to your library account, your personal information will populate in the fields below.

  • Note for the holiday season: many libraries that Chicago Public Library borrows from are closed for several weeks in December and January. We will continue to accept interlibrary loan requests during this time, but availability for items will be limited and may not be able to be filled until mid-January. We encourage you to consider holding your ILL requests until the new year.
  • Pending interlibrary loan requests will appear in your account within two business days. (Requests for photocopies or in-library use only items will not appear in your account.)
  • Each interlibrary loan request counts as a hold. You may have up to 12 holds "not ready" or "paused." This does not include hold requests that are "in transit" or "ready for pickup."
  • If you want to cancel or pause an item, please contact Interlibrary Loan (information below).
  • Additional questions? Check the Interlibrary Loan FAQs, email ILL@chipublib.org or call Interlibrary Loan at (312) 747-4344 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
