Art Exhibit by Charlene Moy at West Pullman Branch

West Pullman Branch hosts an Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month art exhibit during May 2018 featuring artist Charlene Moy.

Charlene received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute. She painted expressively colored portraits and went on to make a variety of crafts sold nationwide. Then she stopped. A major life change recently led her back to painting. In her desire to embrace life in a new way, she began taking a variety of classes throughout Chicagoland. She discovered that watercolor, a medium she avoided, is very versatile, invigorating and mixes well with others. Taking inspiration from nature, Charlene photographs and paints the terrain from afar and up-close. She often enlarges and literally blows up the image, decontextualizing and obscuring objects and the spaces between them. Insignificant to the naked eye, a speck transforms into a vast landscape, a dark cavern or vaporous puffs of color. By examining small things in a larger way, new worlds emerge from beneath and within.
