Folded and Unfolded: The Art of Paper Engineering

Paper folding isn't just for kids anymore: this summer, you can explore Unfolded: Made With Paper, an amazing exhibit in the Block 37 building at the Chicago Design Museum. Unfolded highlights awesome works of paper created by the Chicago design community and imaginative contributions from around the world. Visit the exhibit before July 30, snap a picture of yourself next to your favorite piece, then share your thoughts with us on social media (#cplteens) or contribute to our Teen Chicago Travel Guide.

Don't have a camera or a phone camera? Have no fear: you can make your own with Build Fun Paper Cameras. The book includes a CD, totally easy picture guides and step-by-step instructions to create seven different paper camera models (and photography projects to go with them).

If you're ready to level up and create your own paper-folding projects, try Origami or The Pop-up Book. The instructions are a little more complicated, but if these aren't your style, we have many other origami books to choose from.

Last but not least, I couldn't write about paper engineering without mentioning Robert Sabuda, who I consider to be a master of the craft. His pop-up books and note cards are world famous and you can check out examples in Gods & Heroes and Encyclopedia Mythologica.

If you fall in love with paper crafts this summer, we hope you'll share pictures of your creations with us via social media (#cplteens). Happy folding!
