Hidden and Yet Bidden: Masks and Portraiture by Lea Atiq

Lincoln Belmont Branch hosts a Women’s History Month art exhibit in March.

Masks hide the true nature of a being, or they can reveal hidden truths. Over the years, Lea Atiq has made the mask a focal point for artistic expression, from wearable masks used in performance art to ceramic sculptures displayed on walls. For Women's History Month, her exhibit documents this progression and culminates with two-dimensional portraits of notable authors, doctors, scientists, researchers, artists and professors. These mask-like portraits incorporate plants, animals, names and websites in a story book way.

Atiq advocates creating culture as the single most important activity we can engage in to bring about real change. She will give an artist talk at 6:30 p.m. March 20 at Lincoln Belmont Branch.
