Our Ladies of Perpetual Housework: Assemblage Sculpture by Elaine Luther

West Englewood Branch hosts a Women’s History Month art exhibit in March.

Artist and stay-at-home mom of three Elaine Luther sometimes feels like she's drowning in dishes, laundry, housework and cooking. Her response is a series of assemblage sculptures, each one a mini grotto with a silver-leafed saint, her plea for help. The sculptures were inspired by a work of folk art the artist saw in a library book, a front-yard grotto with an upturned bathtub, partially buried in the ground.
