There are many fantastic children’s authors from the Chicago area. One of my favorites is Jim Aylesworth. His playful, rhyming text and silly sounds make for great reading experiences. These picture books are sure to excite and engage kids over and over.
It's summer, so start with Old Black Fly for a rumpus time of kids saying, "buzz, buzz, buzz."
Next, take a spin through winter in the classic retelling of the old Ukrainian folk tale The Mitten.
Then come stateside for the story of Illinois' own Abe Lincoln in the very readable and adorable biography Our Abe Lincoln.
Don’t wait for the holidays to catch Aylesworth’s hilarious rendition of The Gingerbread Man.
Lastly, what kid doesn’t like a visit to the farm and make animal noises? Get ready to Cock-a-doodle-doo, Creak, Pop-pop, Moo.
