Picture Books About Love

As we get ready for Valentine’s Day it seems that everyone has love on the brain. There are so many kinds of love to be celebrated this month and so many ways to share love. Here are a few of my favorite picture books to celebrate this month.

In The New Small Person, Elmore Green is quite comfortable with his role as the only child in his house. When his parents bring home a new small person, Elmore must get used to sharing his room, his toys and his parents. Over time, he begins to enjoy having this small person around and his feelings might even be growing into something like love.

When Esther the pig was adopted, her dads were told she was a mini-pig and would never grow very large. But 600 lbs later, Esther was definitely not mini anymore! She was so very loved that the whole family moved to a farm where Esther could have lots of space. Read about the start of the Happily Ever Esther Farm Sanctuary in The True Adventures of Esther the Wonder Pig.

In Friends Are Friends, Forever Dandan and Yueyue are best friends in China. When Dandan’s parents decide to move to the US, the girls spend one last Lunar New Year’s Eve together where they create paper snowflakes as they do every year. As they say goodbye Yueyue gives her BFF supplies so she can create more snowflakes next year in her new home. Will Dandan find someone in her new country to share this tradition with?

One of my favorite picture books of all is Love. This book shows how love is with us throughout our lives and is seen in the many caring gestures of our friends and family members.

How will you show love to a person or pet this month?
