A new exhibition celebrating Chicago’s lowrider culture will open at the Archer Heights Branch on June 6, 2026. Featuring photographs and reflections by Chicago-area photographers within the lowrider community, the exhibit documents the artistry, history and familial spirit that continue to define lowriding across Chicagoland.
Though lowriding in Chicago spans decades, the culture has seen renewed energy in recent years through community meetups, pop-up events and large-scale car shows. The exhibition highlights the craftsmanship behind custom cars and bikes, like candy paint, hood murals and the ornate interiors, as well as the photographers who continue documenting the scene from within.
The exhibition also reflects the resurgence of lowriding following the COVID-19 pandemic, when social media helped reconnect clubs, photographers, and enthusiasts across the region.
A family-friendly opening celebration and summer kickoff event will take place on June 6. The exhibition will remain on display at the Archer Heights Branch through August 31, 2026.
