Art Exhibit by Charlene Moy at West Loop Branch

West Loop Branch hosts an Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month art exhibit in May featuring artist Charlene Moy.

About the Artist

Charlene received her bachelor of fine arts from the School of the Art Institute. She painted expressively colored portraits and went on to make a variety of crafts sold nationwide. She recently returned to painting.

Inspired by the diversity and balance that naturally occurs in nature, she seeks out images that are intermingled, tangled and in various life stages. Capturing them by camera allows her to enlarge, refocus, reconstruct and decontextualize. Beginning with these images, working predominantly with watercolor and pastels, she allows the interaction of color and intuition to direct the painting. Embracing the unexpected interactions of watercolor allows her to be spontaneous and responsive to the surface. The earthiness of pastels creates a tactile connection that elicits a physical and emotional response. Striving to connect to nature, she hopes her images will encourage the viewer to seek out their own connection with nature.
