All the talk around this year's MLB All-Star Game has brought up a lot of personal baseball memories for me, like how I was so excited to meet Andre Dawson as a kid or how I spent 10 years of my childhood swinging a bat. I've always loved the sport and all the classic baseball movies I've seen through the years.
As a girl who started playing tee-ball at 4, I never thought twice about women playing baseball, so naturally A League of Their Own is a favorite of mine. With the quippy one-liners and memorable quotes -- "there's no crying in baseball" -- this film based on a true story shines a light on the history of women in baseball while also promoting equality of women in sports. Maybe one day there will be a movie about the female teen making history today!
Another thing I think of when I think of baseball is summer. The Sandlot captures a 1960s summer perfectly with the warm weather, building friendships and neighborhood antics. While baseball is at the forefront of the movie, the bonding of friends really makes this one memorable. That and... FOR-EV-ER.
It's hard to believe that Fever Pitch was released 10 years ago. Even though the movie plot is fictional, it captures the truly amazing and historic comeback of the Boston Red Sox on the way to winning the World Series in 2004. While this movie is a rom-com at heart, it provides all the fun of going to baseball games and all the feelings fans go through during a season of ups and downs.
What's your favorite baseball movie?
