Play Outside the Box

My children have an infinite amount of toys ranging from small and simple to large and complicated. So which is the best toy? It's always the empty box that provides them endless adventures. Not only is it fun, but it allows them to use their imagination, creativity and most importantly they learn as they play. The next time a box arrives at your doorstep, don't throw it out, give it to your kids and let the adventure begin.

Saturday, October 11 is the Global Day of Play which grew from the incredible imagination and creativity of nine year old Caine. Caine's Arcade, created by this amazing boy using recycled materials and a lot of imagination, inspires children everywhere.

Take the Global Cardboard Challenge which each year celebrates the anniversary of flash mob that played at Caine's Arcade. Join the fun on Global Day of Play with the Civic Lab as they host the challenge here in Chicago.

The Birthday Box - The birthday boy loves his present, he flies over the ocean, sleds down a slope and even turns into a robot with it. Oh and the new toy he received in the box is fun as well.

Meeow is always using things in his environment to have fun. Join this clever kitty in Meeow and the Big Box as he constructs a fire truck out of a simple brown box.

The Nowhere Box - George is tired of his little brothers causing chaos. He turns a plain box into his vessel to Nowhere to avoid them. I loved the adorable illustrations featuring cardboard creations and a story showcasing the power of imagination.
