OK Bears fans, another Super Bowl, another no-show for our team. It's been a rough year (actually, a rough decade) for Bears fans. Every season we hope and pray for the best, only to be devastated yet again.
At first it was Lovie Smith who was going to lead us to the Super Bowl—well, we got there alright, but we got spanked by the Indianapolis Colts. Then there was Rex Grossman—my mother always taught me if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all—I will heed her advice. When Jay Cutler was signed, Bears fans rejoiced, we finally got the franchise quarterback of our dreams—NOT! And Mark Trestman was positively robotic when delivering his weekly press conferences after the Bears managed to lose yet another game.
Well, finally the McCaskey family is shaking things up by hiring a new GM and coach, thus instilling a flicker of hope in the hearts of Bears fans everywhere. In the meantime, we can relive the Bears glory years by popping in our VHS tape of the Super Bowl Shuffle Bears of 85/86—now that was a TEAM! Listed below are some books you can read about the storied Bears organization to help pump you for next season, because the Monsters of the Midway will be back!
Monster of the Midway by Jim Dent is the story of Bears legend Bronco Nagurski—it recounts his youth growing up in the backwoods of northern Minnesota to his glory years in the 1930s and 1940s playing for Chicago when the Bears were the undisputed kings of professional football.
Chicago Bears by George Castle relates the history of the team, recounting the highs and lows of the team as well as mini-biographies of famous Bears players and coaches.
The '85 Bears by Mike Ditka is the ultimate record of the Bears' Super Bowl-winning 1985 season as told by "da Coach" himself.

Papa Bear by Jeff Davis is a comprehensive biography of George Halas, the founding father of professional football and the Chicago Bears. This book includes a treasure trove of never-before published archival materials on Halas and his enduring legacy.
Sweetness by Jeff Pearlman is the biography of superstar running back Walter Payton, who became a lasting image of what's great about football. It recounts his childhood in segregated Mississippi to his iconic, record-breaking career with the Chicago Bears.
