Library Resources for GED and High School Equivalency Prep

With your Chicago Public Library card, you can access free study materials, live tutors, and practice tests for both the GED and HiSET exams.

Brainfuse for Job Seekers and Adult Learners offers study materials for both the GED and HiSET (high-school equivalency test) with strategies for studying. There are practice tests with feedback and live virtual tutors, and you can select specific skills to work on with a live tutor. Brainfuse also offers a writing lab, career resources, basic computer skills, and US citizenship test materials. Access Brainfuse on your computer, or you can download an app. Log in with your library card number and PIN (try your ZIP code). Tutors are available in English and Spanish.

Learning Express offers practice tests, tutorials, GED and HiSET study materials, and specific sections to build your reading, writing, math, and grammar skills. There are resources available in English and Spanish, and you can download an app or access Learning Express on your computer. Log in with your library card number and PIN (try your ZIP code).

Cell-Ed has short courses to build your math, reading, writing, and social studies skills. It is designed to work on your mobile device, but you can also access it on your computer. You don't need your library card, but you can set up an account on your cell phone. Use Chicago Public Library's access code/PIN 3491. Available in English, Spanish, and other languages.

The library is starting new partnerships with UIC's Center for Literacy and the city colleges to offer GED classes at branches. UIC will be offering GED classes at Harold Washington, Back of the Yards, and Little Village, and the Thurgood Marshall branch will be hosting GED classes through Kennedy-King College.
