Workshops Now Available on Eventbrite

You can now register for Maker Lab workshops on Eventbrite. Eventbrite lets you share workshops you’re excited about and sends you an email reminder so you don’t miss out. There’s still room in the Typographic Keychain workshops tonight and tomorrow if you want to hang out, meet Inkscape and learn about the lab.

The Typographic Keychain is a playful take on letter forms. In Inkscape, you pick a name or word, using simple or detailed fonts. You then rearrange the letters so they overlap in places, for support or for fun, and turn the design into a solid shape. You can add a keyring hole if necessary, but the enclosed loops of a round letter can function as one, too. We then cut the design out of acrylic on the laser cutters. We provide some examples at the start of the workshop because picturing the finished project can be tricky the first time.

Tips

  • A thick font makes for a more stable keychain
  • You can use bold to thicken up a thin font
  • If your keychain seems too large, add a cord and wear it as a necklace!

We hope this gives you more ideas about how digital designs are made into physical objects, and some ideas for your own personal projects.
