Join Our Winter Learning Challenge for Kids and Teens

Read, Discover and Create over winter vacation with the Neighborhood Nature Winter Learning Challenge!

Kids and teens ages 3 to 18 are invited to participate in the Winter Learning Challenge between December 16, 2013 and January 5, 2014. To complete the challenge:

  • READ (book, magazine or website) for 20 minutes a day for five days of winter break
  • DISCOVER new information about nature in the city by doing one activity
  • CREATE one story, piece of art or design challenge inspired by the theme "Neighborhood Nature"

Keep track of your progress in the Winter Learning Challenge Log. Return your log to any CPL location by January 10, 2014 to be entered into a raffle to win an eReader.

During our challenge, we also invite families to visit a hands-on exhibit at the Harold Washington Library Center. Stop by for some interactive learning!

Themes

Challenge yourself to learn more about nature in your neighborhood this winter. We are highlighting five topics for you to explore:

What happens in winter? What animals stay in Chicago during the cold weather? How do animals survive when it’s cold outside? How do people stay warm in winter? There are so many things to learn about winter in the city.
