Teen Voices: Fernando, Streetwear Entrepreneur

Each month we spotlight a teen at CPL.

Fernando is a student at Chicago Tech Academy. Inspired by brands Revenge and Yeezy and his favorite rappers, Fernando wanted to start his own streetwear clothing brand.

Back in February, he searched for a studio to make his shirts until his mentor, Mike, mentioned the West Loop YOUmedia, which had all the resources he was looking for. Using YOUmedia's vinyl cutter and heat press, Fernando began transferring his striking designs onto clothing.

We asked Fernando a bit about his creative process and inspiration.

Q: Tell us about yourself.

A: My name is Fernando, and I’m from the Northwest Side of Chicago. I like to draw and listen to music. I used to produce music also but stopped because this year, I wanted to do my own clothing brand. So I’ve been hooked on that for a few months now. Starting a bit small, I just wanted to do streetwear first then go mainstream.

Q: So how’d you get into fashion?

A: Like two years ago, one of my favorite rappers, I liked it how they 3D printed, I’m not sure how they did it. But their brand is called Revenge because it had different designs on the back. And Kanye West, I just like how he is, and his brand Yeezy.

Q: How can we find more of your designs?

A: Check out @themasochistsociety on Instagram to see more.

Thanks for sharing your designs, Fernando!
