Just in time for Summer at CPL, Chicago Public Library has expanded its total number of nature-themed ScienceConnections Discovery Packs across the city.
The new Discovery Packs are:
Animal Tracks: Through this pack created in partnership with Lincoln Park Zoo, families will be able to explore the remnants left behind by animals in nature – sometimes broken sticks, but often times footprints. From rubbing plates to games and books, there is plenty of fun learning for families to enjoy at home.
Birds and Birdwatching: Through this pack created in partnership with Lincoln Park Zoo, families will be able to explore bird guides and bird songs. They’ll even be able to try making bird calls! Each pack also includes binoculars for kids and adults to find and identify birds on nature walks together.
Rocks and Minerals: Through this Rocks and Minerals pack, families will be able to explore and physically handle glimmering gemstones and make geological notes as they study extraordinary specimens with a pocket microscope and UV light. Of course, the pictures of these natural wonders in the accompanying books are wonderful, too. Young rock enthusiasts can find more books about how rocks tell us about the world in Eva's blog post, Rocks Rock!
Discovery Packs may be checked out only by adults and only one backpack may be loaned per family at time of checkout. Also, Discovery Packs cannot be placed on hold or renewed and may only be returned to the owning location.
