Exhibit: Devouring Time Swallow Us Whole

A new art exhibit, Devouring Time Swallow Us Whole, opens October 12 on the 8th floor of Harold Washington Library Center. Devouring Time Swallow Us Whole, featuring the speculative photography of Andrew Boynton, is the third exhibit in the 2025-2026 Eighth Floor Call for Artists cycle.

Through recreations of the past, Andrew Boynton investigates the conflicts that afflict our heavily polarized contemporary moment. His interdisciplinary practice is informed by the medieval past and the mythology that surrounds it. Devouring Time Swallow Us Whole depicts a collision of these two eras, where peasants are stalked by a technological specter, knights bear surveillance crosses, and lasers land on feudal landscapes.

Boynton’s work has been shown at MANA Contemporary and Epiphany Center for the Arts, and is held in multiple private and public collections, including the Joan Flasch Artist Book Collection. In 2022 Boynton was awarded Chicago’s Luminarts Fellowship. He works out of Chicago where he received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute.

Devouring Time Swallow Us Whole will be on display on the 8th floor of Harold Washington Library Center from October 12, 2025, to December 28, 2025.
