Children’s Library at HWLC Closing for Renovations November 5

To create a more dynamic, state-of-the-art active learning center for kids and families from all over the city, the Thomas Hughes Children’s Library at Harold Washington Library Center will close for renovations Saturday, November 5.

Services Available During Renovations

  • Library materials and play space: Beginning Sunday, November 13, visit our pop-up children’s library in the Popular Library on the 1st floor of Harold Washington Library Center, open during regular library hours. The mini children’s library will feature popular picture books, fiction for school-age children and DVDs. The space will also feature a puppet stage and puppets for children to play with as well as space for families to read together.
  • Events: We'll regularly offer events for kids in the Multipurpose Room on the lower level of Harold Washington Library Center. See our schedule of kids events at HWLC.
  • Computers: Kids will be able to use internet computers on the 5th floor. We'll also have study areas for families on the 5th floor.

When completed, the updated Thomas Hughes Children’s Library will feature design elements and programming to evoke curiosity and engagement in children and their families through play, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) and literacy.

We're excited to read, learn and explore with you in the new space, opening in the second quarter of 2017.
