Art Exhibit by Melissa Patiño at Chicago Lawn Branch

Chicago Lawn Branch hosts a Hispanic Heritage Month art exhibit featuring the work of local artist Melissa Patiño.

Patiño's exhibit Human Nature will be on display from September 15 through October 15.

Artist Statement

Melissa Patiño makes use of human anatomy to re-contextualize our relationship to one another and our environment. As more and more of our interactions are mediated by technology, the primacy of the physical world seems to recede in the face of increasing digitization. Reminding us of our physical fragility, she juxtaposes elements of the body with landscapes and portraits to form a narrative about our psychology, physiology and how we experience the world. Patiño's work examines the ways in which we remain anchored within our physiology and how this connects us to larger systems in both society and nature.

Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibits

More than 20 local artists are exhibiting at CPL during Hispanic Heritage Month.
