2019-2020 Teen Winter Challenge Winners

Everyone complains about the Chicago winters, but they do provide a good excuse to create art indoors. Here's proof that the next generation of artists were honing their skills and experimenting with form, shape, texture and design. Over 100 teens submitted art to our 5th Annual Teen Winter Challenge, for the chance to win prize money and be exhibited at Harold Washington Library Center.

It takes courage to share one’s art with someone, especially to a competition where it will be judged. We applaud all the teens who embraced that vulnerability by submitting. We also want to thank our special guest judge from the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Grace Needlman, for evaluating the submissions along with Chicago Public Library staff members Ava Carney, Sara Heymann and Justin Shannin.

Here are the 5th annual, 2019-2020 Teen Winter Challenge award recipients:

Grand Prize Winner: Stevia N.

Runners Up: Monee B. and Nayla V.

Young Artist Award

Grand Prize Winner: Schantelle A.

We’d like to thank the many mentors, educators and parents for their part in developing these young artists and for their continued support in making this important CPL initiative a huge success. Congratulations to our winners and to all of our Teen Winter Challenge participants!
