YOUmedia FAQs

• What happens in YOUmedia?

  It's an open environment where you choose what you want to do and skilled library staff provide coaching and assistance. You can hang out, mess around and geek out. All YOUmedia locations have books, 3D printers, laptops, cameras, music and gaming equipment, and some YOUmedia locations have sewing machines and more. 

• Which CPL locations have a YOUmedia?

  YOUmedia is available at all CPL locations.

• How old do you have to be to come to YOUmedia?

  At most locations you can come to YOUmedia if you are 13 years old. Harold Washington Library Center YOUmedia is strictly for high school students. 

• What are YOUmedia's hours?

  Check with each YOUmedia location for hours.

• Does it cost anything to come to YOUmedia?

  YOUmedia is free. It doesn't cost anything to use equipment or visit any YOUmedia space.

• What should I bring when I come to YOUmedia?

  If you're in high school, bring your school ID and your library card if you have one.

  If you're in sixth through eighth grade, just bring yourself.

  If you don't have a library card, you can still visit YOUmedia, and we can also help you get a library card.

• Do I need to register to come to YOUmedia?

  No, but you'll need to fill out a form with your name, birthdate and what school you attend when you visit YOUmedia for the first time.

• Can I use YOUmedia equipment if I have fees?

  YOUmedia offers a variety of equipment and devices for use in the YOUmedia space. You can use these items regardless of any fees on your account.

• How do I get studio certified or book studio time in YOUmedia?

  You can book the studio once you're certified. To get certified, you must attend studio certification.
