The History of Women

In celebration of Women's History Month here are some books about awesome women contributing to our world throughout the years.

Gail Collins, most likely known as a New York Times op-ed columinst, wrote America's Women: 400 Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates, and Heroines. It covers four centuries' worth of women's lives. The chapters pair women's roles with the larger picture of what was happening in the world at a given time. While a long book, the conversational tone and well defined sections make it easier to digest.

If you prefer to learn only about the highlights of women in U.S. history, 33 Things Every Girl Should Know About Women's History, is a good one to pick up. The content is a mix of essays, poems and letters of mutliple contributors sharing their thoughts and experiences.

Another great selection is Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America. I like this one because it is set up like an actual timeline and you can flip through to specific time periods. Pictures and blurbs about women, starting from 1580 to 2007, fill this book.  This one doesn't go in depth, but it highlights the various contributions women have provided to the world.

Who are some of your favorite women throughout history? If you don't know, these books will definitely help you decide.
