#TBT: Happy Birthday, Sally Field!

For this Throwback Thursday, we celebrate the one and only Sally Field, who turns 70 on Sunday. This Scorpio first captured hearts in popular sitcoms Gidget and The Flying Nun. I, however, had the joy of being introduced to her on the big screen with Murphy's Romance and later Steel Magnolias.

One of the great things about Sally Field, for me, is that I always thought she would be a great and kind friend in person. She's one of those actors you really wish you knew because there's something so likable about her. So let's celebrate the big 7-0 with a look at some more of her wonderful movies. Cheers!

Field often gets misquoted for her Academy Award speech for 1984's Places in the Heart as saying, "You like me. You really like me." In point of fact, she said, “I can’t deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me.” But, we do really like you, Sally! All these years later and she's still giving touching performances, like her latest in Hello, My Name Is Doris.

Field played Mrs. Gump in Forrest Gump (with my other favorite, Tom Hanks), Aunt May Parker in The Amazing Spider-man and Mary Todd Lincoln in Lincoln.

For one more bit of trivia, do you know which two Disney characters Field gave voice to? I'll tell you… Sassy in Homeward Bound, the Incredible Journey and Marina Del Rey in The Little Mermaid.

Currently, Field's preparing for a Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie.
