Believe it or not, the first official day of spring is March 20. It’s so close! I can almost feel it! For some reason, spring is traditionally the time when people do a massive cleaning overhaul on their homes and apartments. Personally, by the time spring rolls around I want to be out of my apartment as much as possible, but if you do need to get some tidying done here are a few tunes to make the time fly.
My go-to pump-up music is Girl Talk. Don’t be misled by the name— it’s one nerdy-looking guy and his laptop. He mixes and layers samples of different songs into an album-long dance mix. What’s that? You don’t think that “Come Together” by Aerosmith can be layered over “Grillz” by Nelly and successfully segue into “Today” by the Smashing Pumpkins? Think again. Pick up Night Ripper and see just how many combinations can be made.
Another fun album is Cults by indie pop band Cults. Indie pop, yes, but so much more. This band has an almost 60s bubblegum pop sound that just makes me want to dance. Dance and clean.
Pop music today has many divas, but in my opinion there will never be one like Madonna. Kick off your spring cleaning by popping her The Immaculate Collection into your CD player, letting the memories wash over you, and singing and dancing your house’s mess away.
