The month of May has been known to cause a little bit of spring fever. People get caught skipping work or class, making excuses to get out of commitments, driving a little too fast with windows down and "Happy" by Pharrell blasting on the radio (wait, is that just me?). May also happens to be Get Caught Reading Month, and we promise you won't get in trouble for getting caught with these excellent crime books-- unless they are returned late!
An extremely popular book about gangs that I've recommended numerous times is Lady Q. This memoir tells the story of Sonia Rodriguez's life in the Latin Kings street gang of Chicago. Her experiences ran the gamut from thrilling to terrifying, and the book is good reading that you won't be able to put down.
And Then There Were None is a well-known oldie-but-goody by one of my personal favorite authors, Agatha Christie. The well-crafted novel tells the story of ten people, each complicit in a crime, who are lured to an isolated island, accused of their crimes and left to pay the price by an unknown assailant.
And Then There Were None is available in multiple formats.
The Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo gives readers who loved The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo another taste of Swedish crime fiction. There are ten novels in the series and the first to get hooked on is The Bat, in which Harry is sent from Oslo to Sydney to help investigate the murder of a Swedish B-list celebrity.
We hope to catch you reading one of these recommendations or any of the wonderful books you can find at your Chicago Public Library branch this May!
