Jessica Jones Readalikes

Are you jonesing for more Jessica?

Since its premiere on Netflix, Jessica Jones has been getting so much buzz. Not only is this new series part of the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's drawing many viewers who don't know the first thing about comic books. Jessica Jones is a female P.I. who drinks too much, keeps loved ones at a distance and has trouble facing her dark past. Jessica is surrounded by complex supporting characters whose relationships with Jessica (and each other) explore gender dynamics and PTSD all amid a very noir New York backdrop. Oh yeah, she also happens to have superstrength.

If you've already binge-watched the whole series, you're probably feeling a little lost. If you need more Jessica in your life, here are some great reads to hold you over until season 2 comes along.

Check out Jessica's comic book origins if you haven't already. Jessica Jones: Alias follows Jessica on a few other mysteries not covered in the current Netflix series.

If you loved Jessica's strength in the wake of trauma and the show's exploration of PTSD and survival, you must read The Edge of Normal and One Kick. Both are suspenseful reads featuring young women who were victims of horrible crimes and dedicate themselves to protecting others from a similar fate while healing their own psychological wounds.

Are you a sucker for a cool, whiskey-drinking detective? Don't forget about V.I. Warshawski, Sara Paretsky's iconic female P.I. who uses her wits (and sometimes a Smith & Wesson) to fight murder and corruption in Chicago. This long-running series has many titles. Get started with Indemnity Only.
