If You Love Leigh Bardugo

If you're like me you are waiting on the edge of your seat for the release of the Shadow and Bone TV series (April 23, 2021 on Netflix!) and holding your breath to see what happens to Nikolai, Zoya, and Nina in Rule Of Wolves (March 30, 2021). Leigh Bardugo is our queen, and we can't get enough! So here are some fun teen fantasy reads featuring demons, magic abilities, and a crew trying to pull off a dangerous heist to hold you over until we can get our hands on more from the Grishaverse.

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna follows the story of Deka, a girl born to a country where on their sixteenth birthdays women must go through a test, and if they fail they will face dire consequences. When Deka fails the test a mysterious woman rescues her and takes her to a training ground where she meets others like her. Deka will learn that she and the other women of her country are so much more than they were allowed to believe. 

Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao is a story about Anna, who is a princess and also an Affinite who has the ability to control blood. She is determined to figure out who is responsible for the murder of her father, clear her name, and create a better world for all Affinites. Ramson Quicktongue is a con man with a network of spies that can help Anna get what she needs - but his help comes with a price.

In We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal Zafira is the Hunter, and has spent her life defying her rulers by dressing as a man and hunting in the enchanted forest that borders her village. Nasir is the Prince of Death, an assassin doing his father's dirty work. These two legends come together on a dangerous quest to bring magic back to their dying world.

Visit the city of Eldra in Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria which has long been ruled by ancient prophecies - which always seem to favor the high council. A group of friends led by the daughter of revolutionaries must break into the citadel to take the power back from the council and give it to the people.
