Dungeons and Dragons Classes as YA Books

The classic Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) party consists of four primary roles: a Tank (a close-range fighter), a Healer, a Scout (a stealthy character), and a Blaster (a magic user). While many D&D classes fit within this format, stereotypically this party would be comprised of the classes Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, and Wizard. Each of these classes has been paired with a YA book that fits their vibe. If you are interested in playing D&D with us, check out our programs!

First up is the Fighter. Usually wearing heavy armor and swinging a big weapon, fighters both take and deal a lot of damage. In Lady's Knight, Gwen wants to be more than her father's blacksmith apprentice, and Lady Isobelle finds herself in trouble as she's chosen to be the prize for the Tournament of Dragonslayers. Together they hatch a plan that Gwen will enter the tournament as 'Sir Gawain' to fight for Isobelle's hand so they can both get what they want - but unexpected feelings begin to grow between the two.

Cleric is a common choice for people playing a healer. They get their magic from a divine source, but their magic can have a deadly side too. In Everything Is Poison, Guilia Tofana's apothecary provides tinctures and remedies to those who need it in 17th century Rome, but Guilia's daughter Carmella learns that there is a darker side to the apothecary in the form of Aqua Tofana - a poison sold to women who's husbands are treating them badly.

Rogues work in the shadows, often acting as thieves or assassins. In Caimor, the world of Queen of Faces,  the wealthy are able to buy designer bodies known as chassis and transfer their consciousness to them. Ana is trapped inside a male body that is decaying, and when she gets caught trying to steal a new chassis, she agrees to avoid execution by becoming an assassin for a powerful man.

Wizards are magic users who get their magic through hard work and studying. In A Door in the Dark, Ren is one of the best wizards at Balmerick University. Theo is a spoiled rich kid who's failed party trick landed him in trouble and having to escort the scholarship students home the day before the holidays. When Ren and Theo cross paths at the portal, a fight breaks out and all six students get transported to the middle of nowhere. Even worse, one of them is dead. Now the group has to survive the wilderness and make their way back to the school.
