Happy 19th birthday, Buffy!

This month, Buffy the Vampire Slayer turns 19. (Okay, the TV series turns 19. The movie that came first turns 24.)

"A vampire in love with a slayer. It's rather poetic...in a maudlin sort of way." --Rupert Giles

As I was saying: the TV series started 19 years ago. If you're a big Buffy fan and you wish they hadn't cancelled it after season 7: did you know they made three more seasons, but in graphic novel form? Or maybe you weren't even born when it was on, but your friends just won't shut up about it. So what are you waiting for? Check out the DVDs and see for yourself.

"The elders conjured up the perfect punishment for me: they restored my soul." --Angel

Need more stories? There are also novelizations and original novels.

"So I told him that I loved him... and I kissed him... and I killed him." --Buffy

If you want to know more about the show itself, there are several guides, like The Monster Book or The Watcher's Guide 2.

"Unfortunately, that's all I could get out of my informant before his aggressive tendencies forced me to introduce him to Mr. Pointy." --Buffy

Want more higher-level discussion? Try Seven Seasons of Buffy, The Existential Joss Whedon, or The Physics of the Buffyverse.

"This is apocalypse stuff. Throw in last night's earthquake, and I'd say we've got a problem. I'd say the end is pretty seriously nigh." --Miss Calendar

P.S. Don't forget about Angel.
