One of my favorite things about fall is Fall Back on November 1. Clocks are set back one hour, which means an extra hour of the weekend and that extra hour of sleep! We often ask ourselves what year we would love to revisit and what would we do. I personally would like to go back to the 1990s! In the 90s the food was cheaper, the music was bangin', and Nickelodeon after school, iykyk! If you're curious about time travel, check out these fall-back-into-time reads!
Time Travel for Beginners is a story of a travel agency that can make all your time travel dreams come true. Here at Time Travel Agency, you'll be welcomed with fresh coffee, a variety of baked goods and the question, 'Where in time do you wish to go?' From having tea with Jane Austin to screaming at a Michael Jackson concert, the sky's the limit. Sounds too good to be true? For a recently divorced single mom, Anna, yes. She sees her job opportunity at Time Travel Agency as a chance of happiness. Then there are those wondering, "What's the catch?" Another employee, Jade, has some criticisms of the agency - along with a dark secret.
In George Falls Through Time, we see our main character, George, go through it! He's recently been laid off from his job, he's in a ton of debt, his boyfriend dumps him, and two of his six (you read that right) dogs go missing. The stress of it all sends him into a spiral...all the way to the year 1300! He's in an era with no phones, no internet, and possibly no indoor plumbing! This novel is Less with a time-loop back to the Dark Ages.
Imagine, your life is flashing before your eyes, making you want to revisit the past. You can't change the past but The Midnight Train can take you there. Wilbur dreams about his best days with his love Maggie, on his honeymoon in Venice. But that was before he gave all that away. He desires to go back and change things, but to do that would be to risk everything. You will love this magical time-travel love story.
It wouldn't be a "Fall Back into Time" books post without paying homage to one of the pioneers of time travel fiction, Octavia Butler. Her iconic novel, Kindred, begins in 1976 when Dana wakes up hospitalized with her left arm amputated. She struggles with dizziness and blackouts that lands her in Maryland in the year 1815. She saves a boy, Rufus, from drowning and gets accosted by the boy's father with a gun. She wakes up before he shoots. She doesn't understand the occurrences and soon realizes that she must travel through time and save Rufus each time his life is in danger in order to ensure the survival of her own family line. She faces the horrors of slavery, sexism, and white supremacy throughout this story.
