Considering the fact that I don’t often highlight music, I thought it would be fun to create a space-related music list in honor of Defy Gravity: Teen Summer Challenge. Here are a few recommended pieces from my list:
If you’ve never listened to it, I think everyone (all ages) *must* listen to "Claire De Lune (Moonlight)" by Claude DeBussy! Check it out on Für Elise.
Also, I'm sure I'm dating myself, but I think De La Soul is awesome and recommend "Transmitting Live from Mars" on 3 Feet High and Rising if you haven’t heard it yet.
Check out Jimi Hendrix's "Valley of Neptune" on Astro Man if you want to hear some amazing guitar work. I’m honestly not sure what the good or bad news or deeper meaning is related to the mercury liquid and valleys of Neptune arising, but I welcome your ideas.
Last, but not least, Selena Gomez can light up the moon and make the Stars Dance. I think she's a dynamic and creative artist worthy of being recognized as much more than a former Disney or Bieber celebrity.
Please share your comments about the space-related music you listen to and would recommend to others. And finally, remember that teens who discover or listen to one song and tell their librarian about it can earn a discover point this summer. This will get you a raffle ticket for prizes while connecting with a librarian and other teens in your community who value discovering and learning new things throughout the summer.
