      Letter from Langston Hughes

Published August 7, 2020 at 760 × 1175 in CPL Librarian Charlemae Hill Rollins Championed African Americans in Children’s Literature.
Signed letter from Langston Hughes reads: Langston Hughes, 20 East 127th Street, New York 35, N.Y. July 14, 1964 Dear Charlemae, So sorry I missed you in New York. My phone number when you come again: TR. 3-4022. ... Your photos are on the way. I think it is wonderful you're doing all those books! I'm deep in books, too--just finished putting The Book of Negro Humor for Indiana University Press--from plantation stories to integration jokes, Dunbar to Baldwin. Should be fun for readers. ... In September I'm going to the Berlin Festival of the Arts whose accent this year is on African and Afro-American expressionism; and also I'm to get a plaque from the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg, where I've never been. Best ever to you, Sincerely, Langston
