Chicago Public Library senior archivist Beverly Cook shares the life story of Era Bell Thompson with books, manuscripts, and photographs from the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection.

Era Bell Thompson, author of American Daughter and Africa and Land of My Fathers, was a pioneering journalist for Ebony and international editor for Johnson Publishing Company for more than thirty years. She was also an important figure in the Chicago Black Renaissance.
