Summer is winding down, and school doors are reopening. Back to packed schedules, unending lectures, and loud hallways. It can be hard not to romanticize the school experience, imagining deeply buried secrets or magical excursions. At times, you may wish you had more drama in your life – maybe not full-on CW vibes but something to break up the monotony. If you find yourself looking to add a little of this kind of spice to your life, let me take you down the hallowed halls of CPL's dark academia collection.
Our first stop is the premier Niveus Private Academy within the pages of Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé. At this Academy, the only two Black students in the school are targeted by the mysterious Aces after they are selected to be part of the Senior Prefects. Can they uncover Aces' identity before their futures are taken from them?
Through here, you will find the maze-like halls of Essex Academy, the prestigious setting of A Darker Mischief by Derek Milman. It is rumored that this academy is home to a secret society known for admiring history and sacrificing students. Join Cal in his whirlwind of a journey to become part of this society by doing whatever it takes.
If you follow the ivy-covered walls, you will find The College of Scriptomantic Arts, a campus that is now home to The Otherwhere Post by Emily J. Taylor. This college is where chosen students get to practice a new kind of magic based in the written word, literally. It is also where Maeve Abenthy plans to find the one person who could prove her father's innocence, but can she do it without being caught?
Moving to the manga wing, we find ourselves at True Cross Academy from Blue Exorcist by Kazue Kato. Most know this academy as an elite school that promises future success, but for a select few, it is also a school for aspiring exorcists. In these classes, you can find Rin, the half-demon son of Satan, fighting his fate and being taught how to be an exorcist by his twin brother.
Finally, we have Cherrybrook Academy, a boarding high school for herbivores and carnivores alike in Beastars by Paru Itagaki. While this school has come together despite their differences in the past, since the murder of a herbivore student, students find it hard to trust those outside of their class, especially carnivores like grey wolf Legoshi. Can the killer be found before friendships get destroyed forever?
I hope you enjoyed this brief tour. Make sure to tell me in the comments which school you're excited to visit.
