Fall crept up on me this year as it tends to do, and when a new season begins, I always think of starting anew. The following teen fiction titles explore new beginnings in a variety of circumstances.
Every Day literally starts off with a 16-year-old named A waking up in a different body every day. When A wakes up as Justin one day and meets his girlfriend, from that day on A tries to figure out if it's possible to have a lasting relationship in different bodies. The twists and turns about identity and relationships make for a fun and fast read.
Every Day is available in multiple formats.
Samantha is in a similar situation in Before I Fall, but instead of waking up in a different body every day, she wakes up in her own body again and again. I liked seeing Samantha transform as she relives the same day over and over, and what she learns about herself and the people around her kept my interest until the end.
Before I Fall is available in multiple formats.
The Absolutely True Diary of A Part-time Indian is an example of how new beginnings can be simultaneously challenging and inspiring. Junior is a Native American kid who lives on a reservation who decides to go to a new school off the reservation. It's inspiring to see how he deals with a new school and handles the relationships of friends who feel betrayed by his new life.
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is available in multiple formats.
