YOUmedia Teen Places in National Storytelling Contest

Joshua, 14,  spent one Saturday afternoon working in YOUmedia with mentors to create a video to submit to the Annual Storytelling Contest presented by the National Association of Black Storytellers.  Joshua did some research at the library to accurately report on the storytelling contest theme: "In Response to the Trayvon Martin Tragedy and the Culture of Violence in our Community."

Joshua used Biography in Context to find two articles about Martin's life, his death and his dreams for the future. After Joshua read the entry "Trayvon Martin" in Contemporary Black Biography, he informed YOUmedia teens and staff that Martin dreamed of becoming a pilot and attended Baker Aviation School after his morning high school classes. We might have never known that fact. Thanks for teaching us something new about him, Joshua.

And congratulations on winning third place in the NABS Annual Storytelling Contest!
