Summer ScienceConnections Programs for Kids

Take part in fun STEAM projects for kids and families throughout the city this July through September! Explore these events now.
Featured summer sites and programs include:  

  • Budlong Woods: In this “Family Science” and “Create Club” series, kids will explore a variety of science themes, including space, volcanoes and more through hands-on activities, such as upcycling t-shirts into tote bags or playing with stomp rockets.
  • Edgewater: In this “Science is Fun” series, some of the fun kid activities include making slime, taking part in a tower building challenge, plus a milk and cookie floating test.
  • Gage Park: Through the "EnGage in STEAM" series, kids will create projects like Ferris wheels and solar-powered spinning sunflowers, plus observe ant farms, paint by numbers and design as well as start an indoor garden for the branch.
  • Greater Grand Crossing: In this “Explore STEAM” series, kids are invited for some afternoon STEAM fun planting seeds for the branch summer reading garden, creating water filters to nourish the plants and making bird feeders to take care of feathered friends.
  • Jeffery Manor: In this “Let’s Get Growing” series, kids will create wildflower seedbombs and learn about the life cycle of butterflies, as well as the unique qualities of air and succulent plants. 
  • Lozano: Join the “Electric Classroom” to learn about static electricity, to create a light switch or make a pet robot using a toothbrush head!
  • South Chicago: In this “Go Green STEAM” series, kids will learn about butterflies, succulent gardening, creating seed bombs and more!
  • Uptown: Kids and families can continue learning about the science of growing at the Uptown Branch garden as well as participate in fun, glowing science activities!
  • West Lawn: Kids are invited to participate in nature and perspective drawing as well as designing and testing boat flotation and speed.
  • West Town: In this “Curious Kids Club,” kids will learn about beginner birding, make a cloud in a jar and participate in a great cookie dunk.
  • Woodson Regional: The “Nature and Garden Club” series continues with opportunities to help maintain the garden flowers and vegetables, appreciate and make nature observations, create crafts and more.
