October through December 2025

Take part in fun STEAM projects for kids and families throughout the city from October through December! Explore these events now. 

Featured sites include:  

  • Austin-Irving: In the “Meet Your Amazing Body!” series, kids 10 to 12 will examine their fingerprints, learn more about DNA from strawberries and discover movement through the construction of robotic hands! 
  • Back of the Yards: In STEAM Kids for ages 5 to 12, kids will engage in bubble painting, creating bouncy balls, paper claws and more.
  • Budlong Woods: In this afternoon “Create Club” series for ages 6 to 12, kids will explore a variety of “Spooky Science” themes, including monster catapults, glow-in-the-dark slime, spiders and bats with glowing eyes made from simple circuits. 
  • Chinatown: STEAM time for ages 6 to 13 will include play and experimentation with Perler beads, slime, haunted houses, engineering and more! 
  • Dunning: In Family Science Night, kids and parents will get to explore circuits by creating Art Bots, discover Newton’s Law of Motion with an egg drop challenge and create magnetic slime. 
  • Gage Park: In this EnGAGE in Steam series, kids will construct an FM radio, build a flashlight, make a rope-riding clown, delivery robot and much more! 
  • Harold Washington Library Center: Kids 3 to 11, bring your families and join us for STEAM-Powered Saturday on Saturday, October 4 where we explore night time and swamp creatures.
  • Jefferson Park: This series of hands-on STEAM programs for ages 6 to 10 will focus on “Seasonal Science,” including LED Mexican marigolds for Day of the Dead; magnetic slime for Halloween; cranberry and toothpick towers for Thanksgiving and so much more!  
  • Little Village: In “Family Celebrations,” kids will enjoy hands-on projects involving STEAM learning, such as slime for Halloween, sugar skulls for Day of the Dead, balloon characters for Thanksgiving and a gingerbread house for winter holidays. 
  • Mayfair: In this “Sensory Science” series for families with children 4 to 10, kids will learn new things while getting their hands messy in a “dino dig,” “leaf lab” and color-changing slime creations. 
  • Near North: In the “Mad Science Club” for kids 6 to 12, kids will have an opportunity to dissect owl pellets, learn about DNA and its structure, engineer cars and more! 
  • Oriole Park: In this “Math Matters” series, kids will work on a variety of fun and creative projects connecting math and art, including creating tessellations, learning about perspective, lines, circles and arcs. 
  • West Englewood: In the “W.E. are Curious” series for ages 8 to 13, kids will explore hydraulic lifts, roller coasters, robotic hands, bridge capacity and more! 
  • West Lawn: At STEM Nights, kids can create a lava lamp and clouds in jars! 
  • West Pullman: In this “Spooky STEM” series, kids 5 to 14 will learn about science and math with some creepy, creative programs including beginner circuitry, engineering, glow-in-the-dark slime and more. 
  • West Town: In this “Curious Kids Club” for kids 6 to 12, kids will explore glow-in-the-dark water, create a chain reaction with dominoes and explore other fascinating concepts with light, water, paper and more!
