Pick Up Solar Eclipse Glasses, Join Viewing Events at CPL

Please note, as of midday August 14, supplies are extremely limited.

Beginning August 14, all CPL locations will provide free solar eclipse glasses for patrons to safely watch the total eclipse on August 21. Up to two pairs of glasses will be distributed to anyone 14 and older on a first-come, first-serve basis, along with a bookmark with information about safe viewing of the eclipse.

Come see the eclipse with us at our eclipse watch parties, including Great Solar Eclipse Observation events at four CPL locations, where you can use a telescope equipped with a solar filter for safe viewing. We've also scheduled preview events before the eclipse.

CPL's Teen Services team has planned for this occasion with the Adler Planetarium Education Department for over three years, beginning with the purchase of telescopes, and then training staff and teens to lead sky viewing events.

Solar eclipse glasses are provided by a generous donation from Adler Planetarium, host of Chicago's Eclipse Fest, and from STARnet, a program of the Space Science Institute's National Center for Interactive Learning.
