Peggy Stevenson. Which Way From Here. Mixed Media. 10 by 8 in. 2018.

True Stories, At Play With Memories., a collage exhibit by Peggy Stevenson, is on display from November 9 to January 13 at Harold Washington Library Center in the Popular Library Exhibit Cases and Congress Corridor East Display Window.

Peggy Stevenson tells her playful stories through collages of vintage photographs, old magazines, postcards, and various odds and ends that find their way into her canvases. Inspired by her own childhood memories, favorite old books and lines of poetry, each collage is both nostalgic and mysterious, using various paint media, images, texture and words to tell her own true stories.

Stevenson grew up in the Philippines and taught linguistics at the University of the Philippines before moving to Chicago in 1993. She's a writer and an award-winning photographer who turned to mixed media collage in 2013. This is her second mixed media exhibit in Chicago. She lives in Hyde Park with her husband and has two college-age daughters.

She will give a mixed media collage workshop at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 17 at Harold Washington Library Center.
