As always, the book is just the beginning! From September through November, One Book, One Chicago will explore themes and ideas from the book with programming across Chicago. Community members will have the opportunity to not only read this year’s One Book, One Chicago selection, but also browse related recommendations and attend events like book discussions, game nights, art workshops, tours, and film screenings.
Highlights include:
- Keynote program: author Xochitl Gonzalez will appear on Thursday, November 20
- Book clubs and discussion groups citywide
- A Silent Reading Soiree on September 24 to help get your reading off to a great start
- A screening and community conversation on the WTTW documentary Young Lords of Lincoln Park
- A discussion on Housing Justice and Cultural Belonging with experts including, Casey Holtschneider (founder, the LYTE Collective), Gaylon Alcaraz (NEIU professor of Justice Studies), Dr. Lisa Yun Lee (Executive Director from National Public Housing Museum) and others.
- Neighborhood programs including musical performances, art workshops, game nights, writing workshops and tours
- Community Cinema film screenings of films related to themes from this year's book
- Partner programming with the Art Institute of Chicago, American Writers Museum, DePaul University, Harold Washington College, National Public Housing Museum, Northeastern Illinois University and others
