Did you read a book as part of the Summer Learning Challenge last year? Then you are one of the more than 71,000 Chicago kids who met the mayor’s challenge to read 2 million books.
This Sunday, your hard work will pay off when Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Library Commissioner Brian Bannon and former Library Board Member (and former Chicago Bear) Israel Idonije jump into Lake Michigan for the 14th annual Polar Plunge. And, Jimmy Fallon, the new host of The Tonight Show, will dive in with them.
The Polar Plunge is 10 a.m. to noon at North Avenue Beach; the event benefits Special Olympics Chicago.
It's still cold out, but we're already getting ready for this year's Summer Learning Challenge, which runs June 9 to August 2. Join us for another fun-filled summer of reading, discovering and creating at all CPL locations. Check back for more details soon: It’s sure to be a summer to sink your teeth into!
