Chicago Public Library can help you support your child as they learn to read in Spanish with books and resources.

To become strong readers, children need:

  • Comprehension skills, which is the ability to understand the meaning of words and sentences. You can help your child practice their comprehension skills by reading books in Spanish together and attending bilingual programs at Chicago Public Library.
  • Decoding skills, which is the ability to read words by using letter sounds.  You can help your child practice their decoding skill by checking out decodable books in Spanish. Find small collections of decodable books in Spanish at the following branches:
