Knitting Machine in Action

You may have heard we were nominated for a 2013 Chicago Innovation Award. If you haven’t voted, you still have time! We appreciate all your support.

Monday was the first of four Robotic Knitting classes.

The knitting machines are from the 1980s and are a great example of hacking old tech with open-source coding. Thanks to the work of an enterprising individual, a Brother knitting machine can be plugged into a Mac, an image can be quickly processed and you can have a two-color knit panel. We can’t wait until Taylor and Dieter create a single masterpiece from all of your designs. (Preview some of the designs on Flickr.)
