Diversion: Photographs by Nanette Rae Freeman at HWLC

Diversion: Photographs by Nanette Rae Freeman is on display November 11 to January 15 at Harold Washington Library Center in the 8th floor exhibit cases.

On July 18, 2011, Nanette Rae Freeman's husband of 25 years was killed in a motorcycle accident on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

As she grieved, she found herself drawn to the remnants of blown-out tires along the side of the road and began photographing them. She states, "I found a surprising comfort in the physicality of the mangled tire. It connected me to my husband, Fred, whose body and mind I lost in this harrowing accident."

Freeman's series of photographs is on display with some memorial artifacts.
