Drawing Progress: Chicago Newspaper Cartoons and Illinois Women’s Suffrage

In celebration of Women's History Month, Drawing Progress: Chicago Newspaper Cartoons and Illinois Women's Suffrage will be on display March 1-31 on the second floor of Sulzer Regional Library.

In 1913, Illinois was the first state east of the Mississippi to grant women the right to vote. This display features political cartoons from the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Tribune that reflect changing public sentiment in the era of women’s suffrage.

You can access historic Chicago newspapers online or on microfilm by appointment. For more information, contact the Newspapers and Periodicals Department at ngpnews@chipublib.org or (312) 747-4366.

This exhibit was previously on display at Harold Washington Library Center.
