Do you love reading young adult (YA) literature and sharing your thoughts with others? The Teen Best Reads (TBR) Internship offers you the chance to work alongside passionate librarians and fellow teens to evaluate books, create engaging content, and host exciting events—all while getting paid.

Intern Responsibilities:

Book Recommendation & Content Creation:

  • Meet monthly to discuss books and complete projects related to the internship.
  • Work with other TBR interns to produce monthly book recommendation content for social media and library platforms.
  • Contribute to curating the final Teen Best Reads List and create BookTok content for that list.
  • Create a trailer or other promotional material to promote the final book list.

Event Planning & Hosting:

  • Host a program or event related to Banned Books Week, highlighting the importance of literary freedom.
  • Participate in partner events to promote literacy and related activities.
  • Plan and host a literary night event just for teens, showcasing your book recommendations and other engaging activities.

Program Details:

  • Meetings will take place one Saturday per month at Harold Washington Library Center, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
  • Interns will receive a stipend of $3,240.00, paid at a rate of $16.20 per hour for the entire year-long program.
  • Payment will be received in a monthly stipend based on the completion of your assignments.
  • The program runs from January to December 2025, with opportunities to participate in additional events or earn more based on involvement.
