Adult Reading and GED Classes Starting at the Library

Do you want to improve your reading skills or study for the GED? You can now do so right at the library.

Adult reading classes at Legler Regional started on June 3rd with Literacy Chicago. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4pm and will continue through the end of July for this session. You'll practice reading and writing a variety of materials, and all levels are welcome. Classes are free, and you can join anytime! Register in advance on Literacy Chicago's website or just show up.

GED classes also started at the Harold Washington Library Center with UIC's Center for Literacy. Come to the intake and registration session on Friday, June 13th between 10am-1pm on the 3rd floor. The GED has 4 subjects, and classes will be offered in 5-week sessions with each session covering one subject. Science classes will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-4pm.  Social studies classes run on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30am-12:30pm. Registration and placement testing is required before enrolling, but you can join during any week of a session. Please contact the Center for Literacy at 312-315-2130 or annaly@uic.edu for more information about the next registration and placement test sessions.

If you'd like to see these types of classes at your local library branch, please tell the adult services librarian and branch manager.

The library also has free online resources to help you practice your reading and other skills. Check out Brainfuse, Learning Express, and Cell-Ed. You will need your library card number to access Brainfuse and Learning Express. For Cell-Ed, use PIN 3491.
